In a landmark move to accelerate durable carbon removal and climate-positive development, Klima Foundation allocated $350,000 in 2024 to purchase forward carbon removal credits from Exomad Green, a pioneering biochar project operating in Bolivia. This funding decision was approved through voting, reinforcing our commitment to supporting scalable, science-backed carbon removal solutions.

Through this agreement, Klima Foundation acquired 2,500 Carbon Removal Certificates (CORCs) from Exomad’s Riberalta project, verified under Puro.earth’s Biochar Methodology. These credits provide long-term carbon removal value while helping to scale a project that has already proven its impact. As of 2024, Exomad Green has removed over 120,000 tonnes of CO₂, and the project is on track to sequester 1 million tonnes by 2027. The forward purchase ensures access to high-quality carbon removals at a competitive price while securing future supply in an increasingly constrained market. It also represents a strategic step in supporting scalable infrastructure for carbon sequestration.
